Riverside County Office of Education Taps LEC for its Professional Development Offerings
- Certification Selected as Best Practice for local districts -

SAN ANTONIO, TX (June 27, 2017) – Today at ISTE 2017, Leading Edge Certification (LEC) - a national provider of certification programs in education technology - announced that Riverside County Office of Education (CA) has selected LEC for its professional development offerings. Riverside County Office of Education has found particular success with LEC Administrator and LEC Digital Educator certifications, where several of the districts it serves have selected LEC for district-wide professional development for teachers and administrators.
Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) delivers the training for the LEC certification. The RCOE serves all of the county’s 23 K-12 school districts, providing educational, financial, legislative, and leadership services and support. “We’re seeing a trend in that school districts are choosing to bring administrators and leadership on board first with technology implementation and training, then the classroom teachers and support staff are next,” said Dennis Large, Ed.D., Director, Educational Technology Services, Riverside COE.
Two districts in particular have taken the approach of training administrators to support their teachers: Hemet Unified School District and Jurupa Unified School District. In both cases the school districts have sent cadres of their administrators – including at the level of the Superintendent – through the Leading Edge Certification program. Following the completion of the LEC Administrator training for district leaders, teachers then followed suit to complete certification in LEC’s Digital Educator program. Using the LEC program across district and school site educators allows for a comprehensive approach to the visioning of technology integration, collaboration and pedagogy. Between the two districts Riverside COE has trained 78 administrators and 28 teachers in total. Since implementing Leading Edge Certification 3 years ago, Riverside COE has trained 320 educators across 15 school districts.
Another trend Riverside COE is seeing is the integration of pedagogy and technology, where the technology integration is happening at the curriculum and classroom level.
